Poem: Light Distorted by Water
I sink below the crashing waves
The raft upon which I rode is gone
Cast away, so now I am castaway
Alone, adrift, and sinking
I fled with my mother and my brothers
From our war-torn land
Aspiring for safety, for love
Finding storms and contempt
Though hopeless I refuse to sink
Kicking upwards, I thrust myself to the light
Broken beams dancing around me
Perhaps clear and warm on the other side
