Don’t Forget Father’s Day

Father’s Day is just around the corner (it is June 19th if you forgot) and many people put off getting a gift until the very last minute. Unlike this time last year, I remembered to get my Dad something, so instead of panicking about it, I am instead free to write this article instead. Here are some ideas for Father’s Day gifts from Most to Least important (as I see them).
- Go Visit Your Dad: The most important in my opinion. Go, take time, visit your dad. Spend some time catching up or pursuing a mutual hobby or an activity you both enjoy. I guarantee surprising him to spend time together will make him happy.
- A Phone Call/Card: If you are like many and live too far away to spend time with your dad, you should at least reach out to call and/or send a wonderful Father’s Day card to show him how much you love and appreciate them.
- Cheesy Gifts: If your dad is like my dad, they love the cheesy Father’s Day gifts. From the toilet timer, to the dad joke button, to the funny shirts, I have given my dad them all and he regularly enjoys pulling them out whenever I come to visit.
- Support His Hobbies: If I have a little extra money on hand, I’ll look around to see if there are any discounted items (my dad always tells me to only buy when things go on sale) that my dad might enjoy with his hobbies. My dad is a bit of an oddball in some ways. While he has been an outdoorsman his entire life, the past ten years he has really gotten into video games. He has made comments to me multiple times how much he enjoys online gaming in the evenings when he gets home from work. For this reason, while I have given him fishing gear and hunting gear in the past, last Father’s Day I gave him a check to put towards buying a gaming PC to replace his old, outdated machine. Needless to say, he bought a truly beastly machine and now we try to play together every weekend since I live 14 hours away.
While I won’t be able to visit my dad this year, I am setting aside time to call him on Father’s Day. If you do nothing else, I encourage you to do at least that. I’ll also send him a card and set aside some time for online gaming with him as well.
Regardless of what you end up deciding to do, I hope you take some time out of your schedule to show your dad how much you love them this Father’s Day.
